Amid search for a president, University of Louisville to make 'major announcement' Wednesday

The University of Louisville, which has spent nearly a year searching for a new leader to succeed former President Neeli Bendapudi, intends to make a big announcement Wednesday.

"We have a major announcement planned for tomorrow that will impact the future of the university," spokesman John Karman told The Courier Journal on Tuesday, although he did not say whether that announcement will be the hiring of a new president.

U of L's board of trustees is set to convene at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday for a closed executive session "to discuss personnel matters," per an agenda for the meeting.

The board has been nearing the end of its monthslong search for a new president since Bendapudi took the top job at Penn State University last December.

Lori Stewart Gonzalez has served as interim president since Bendapudi left, and she's expected to return to her prior job as provost once a permanent president is hired.

Earlier this month, Karman told The Courier Journal there were multiple finalists for the job who were in the interview process, though he said he couldn't disclose who they were. The search process has been closed to the public.
