'American Idol' finalist performing at Christmas in Ida

IDA – “American Idol” finalist Laci Kaye Booth will perform at Christmas in Ida.

Booth is this year’s Young Country Concert performer and will open for headliner Diamond Rio Dec. 3. The concert is presented by Monroe Dodge Chrysler Jeep Superstore and La-Z-Boy. The concerts are free.

The country concerts begin at 3:45 p.m. in the heated, outdoor Christmas in Ida Theater, located in the Ida Township Fire Department parking lot.

Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. Attendees may bring their own chairs. A public meet-and-greet with the stars of the Young Country Concert will take place after the concert at the Partners Tent.

Originally from Texas, Booth placed in the Top 5 on season two of “American Idol.”

After the show, the singer/songwriter released her debut collection of music. Booth has since shared the stage with artists like Riley Green, Jordan Davis and Midland.

“Known for her blend of raw and velvety vocals alongside her personal, heartfelt lyrics that fuse themes of love and longing alongside echoes of country influences, Booth has already made an impressive stamp on the country music scene,” the Christmas in Ida executive board said.

Christmas in Ida begins on Friday, Dec. 2 with the well-attendedCommemorative Concert, taking place at the Ida United Methodist Church. A reception will follow. The concert is presented by Sen. Dale W. Zorn and State Representative Joe Bellino, William Bruck and Dale Biniecki.

This year’s returning act is the Eastern Michigan University (EMU) Choir.The internationally acclaimed Eastern Michigan University Choir will perform choral art and Christmas music.

The ensemble features students from across the country majoring in music and voice study.

Under the direction of Dr. Brandon Johnson, the Eastern Michigan University Choir has toured the continental US, performing at Carnegie Hall and Michigan Music Conference, and has toured Austria, England, Germany, Czechia, Poland, Scotland and Wales.

“The Commemorative Concert was first held on the festival’s 25th-anniversary and was so popular it has continued and will begin the 40th-anniversary celebration this year,” the Christmas in Ida executive board said.

“This year’s entertainment will be a grand celebration of 40 years of wholesome family entertainment, it just gets better and better every year,” Zorn, executive director, said.

Other Saturday entertainment includesPeg Harris Dance Studio, Lighthouse Dance Company, 2022 Miss Monroe County Payton Michelle Perry-Radcliffe and Anita’s Dance Center from Wisconsin.

The all-new Flurries for the Kids family show is an interactive entertainment for the kids and families featuring music, games and prizes.
