Amazon contributes $25K to reward for information on Windsor noose incidents

May 14—WINDSOR — Amazon is contributing $25,000 toward the reward for information on the person or people responsible for the seven possible nooses discovered at the construction site for the soon-to-be fulfillment center, the company said Thursday.

With the contribution, the total amount for the reward has risen to $50,000.

"Amazon remains deeply disturbed by the incident that occurred in Windsor a couple of weeks ago," Kelly Nantel, an Amazon spokeswoman, said in a written statement. "Hate, racism and discrimination have no place in our society and are not tolerated in any development associated with Amazon — whether it be under construction like this one, or fully operational."

She continued, "We are committed to working with the town and Windsor Police Department, as well as our development partners, to hold the perpetrators accountable and ensure that all members of our community feel valued, respected and safe. We are contributing towards the reward to find and bring to justice those responsible."

The reward stems from a series of possible noose discoveries that occurred April 27-29 by supervisors for developer RC Anderson LLC at the construction site on Kennedy Road between those days.

RC Anderson put up the original $25,000 reward.

Mayor Don Trinks said today he is hopeful that Amazon's contribution to the reward sum will assist in bringing justice.

"I think this really shows Amazon's commitment to finding out who did this crime and securing a safe workplace for all the contractors," he said. "We are thankful for their contribution while the Windsor police continue to investigate this incident. Hopefully, sooner rather than later, we will find out who executed this heinous crime."

Police said a noose was found April 27 hanging from a steel beam on the second floor of the construction site, followed by more reports of possible nooses April 28 and April 29.

The Greater Hartford branch of the NAACP last week outlined a list of various demands in connection with the incidents.

Their requests include that local police request and accept additional support from state police and FBI in its investigation; police have said they are working with state and federal authorities on the matter.

The NAACP also demanded that RC Anderson LLC devise and implement an effective plan for cultural and diversity awareness among workers at the site. Police said the construction company has been both receptive and accommodating to law enforcement requests thus far.

"They have held several full site safety meetings, which have included anti-discrimination and discrimination awareness training sessions with all employees on site," police said last Friday in a release.

Finally, the NAACP demanded that Amazon take action to address the discoveries.

The Police Department has said its investigation is ongoing.

Anyone that has information regarding this incident is asked to call Windsor police at 860-688-5273.
