Amateur baseball roundup: Canova Gang picks up Cornbelt League win over Salem

May 17—SALEM — Tim Gassman had four of Canova's 13 hits en route to a 10-4 Cornbelt League win over Salem on Sunday.

Gassman also drove in two runs. Jared Miller and Cole Gassman finished with two hits apiece. Jared Miller, Trey Krier, Garrett Gassman, Derek Miller and Jason Miller each had a hit. Jason Miller drove in three runs.

Krier picked up the win after allowing five hits, three earned runs and striking out four batters in six innings.

For Salem, Cole Cheeseman and Brian Duxbury had two hits apiece. Duxbury belted a two-run homer. Starter Luke Loudenburg finished with one strikeout, six hits and six earned runs through three innings.

Colome 13, Wessington Springs 1

COLOME — Colome racked up 13 hits, 13 runs and Carter Brickman struck out 12 batters in a Pony Hills League amateur baseball win over Wessington Springs on Sunday.

Ben Connot, Terrance Kinzer, Ethan Vobr and Shea Connot paced the Chaos with two hits each. Shea Connot drove in four runs, while Kinzer belted a solo home run.

Jackson Kinzer, Jake Luse, Jeff Ohlmann, Fred Whiting and Brickman each had a hit. Brickman allowed three hits and one earned run in seven innings.

For Wessington Springs, Trey Weber and Terrek Butterfield each had a hit. Weber was tagged with the loss. He allowed 13 hits, 13 earned runs and struck one batter in 4 1/3 innings.

Mount Vernon 4, Redfield 1

MOUNT VERNON — Six different players had a hit and Mount Vernon earned a non-league amateur baseball win over Redfield on Sunday.

Cameron Deinert led the balanced offensive attack with two hits and one RBI. Briggs Havlik drove in a pair of runs, while Eric Giblin, Koby Larson, Brady Albrecht and Hunter Pranger each had a hit.

Baley Miller earned the win. He fanned five batters, allowed two hits and one run through the first five innings. Luke Tiesler (four strikeouts) and Albrecht (three strikeouts) combined for four scoreless innings of relief.

Mount Vernon (3-1) hosts the Plankinton Gold Sox on Tuesday.

Harrisburg Hops 12, Parkston 2

HARRISBURG — Parkston allowed 13 hits and grand slam as the Harrisburg Hops topped Parkston in non-league amateur baseball action on Sunday.

James Borges finished with two hits, including a grand slam for Harrisburg. Charlie Dubanosko added three hits. Starting pitcher Ethan Landon had six strikeouts, allowed one hit and zero runs in three innings.

Jeff Harris, Nate Doering and Dylan Mogck had a hit for Parkston. Starter Jake Weber took the loss after allowing nine hits, eight runs (seven earned) and struck out four batters in four innings.

Parkston (0-3) hosts Garretson on Thursday.
