Amateur baseball roundup: Bird Island routs Sacred Heart, 16-3

Jun. 27—SACRED HEART — Bird Island cruised to a 16-3, seven-inning victory over Sacred Heart in a Corn Belt League amateur baseball game Sunday evening.

The Bullfrogs' Aidan Elfering threw a complete game to earn the win, allowing 10 hits and three earned runs and striking out 10.

Zeke Walton started the rout for the Bullfrogs in the second inning. He hit a home run over the left field fence to give Bird Island a 3-0 lead, finishing the game 3-for-4 with four runs scored, three RBIs and a double.

Walton's Bullfrogs teammates, Dylan Gass and Shawn Dollerschell, joined in on the home run action.

Gass hit a home run in the fourth inning, adding to the Bullfrogs' lead at 11-2. Then, Dollerschell continued the show with a home run of his own in the seventh inning before Walton scored Bird Island's 16th run of the game later that inning.

Alongside Walton's strong night offensively for Bird Island, Logan Swann had a perfect night at the plate. He went 3-for-3 with a double.

On the other side of the field, it was Tyler Froland who had a strong offensive night for Sacred Heart. He recorded two hits with two runs, two RBIs and a home run to cap off a game that saw four home runs.

Seven batters for Bird Island, including Swann, recorded a hit en route to victory. Six tallied at least an RBI.

Josh Tinklenberg, Caleb Owens and Yayden Dierenfeld all had three hits in Wilmar's 20-hit attack as the Rails beat the Engineers in eight innings at Tracy.

Matt Gruber homered and got the pitching win as the Stars beat the Eagles at Regal.

Gruber went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. He also pitched five innings, striking out three, walking two and allowing six hits and no earned runs. Jackson Hendrickson, Andrew Toop and Mitchell Gruber all had two hits for Starbuck.

Farming's late rally boosted it past Roscoe en route to a Stearns County League win at Roscoe.

Despite Josh Mackedanz throwing a complete game with eight strikeouts, Farming earned 15 hits in the game and scored six runs in the ninth inning to break Roscoe's 6-3 lead.

In the championship game of the Bush Lite Invite in Rosen, Baseball 365, a Class A team from the Twin Cities, beat the host Rosen Express 8-6.

In the third-place game, the Madison Mallards defeated Montrose-Waverly 4-3. Madison beat Elrosa 3-0 on Saturday.

In the fifth-place game, Norway Lake-Sunburg beat Elrosa 6-5.

The Hancock Orphans beat the Appleton A's in a Land O'Ducks League game at Hancock.
