Christmas in the Gardens planned through Dec. 23

The Amarillo Botanical Gardens, 1400 Streit Drive, is hosting this year's Bank of America Christmas in the Gardens holiday extravaganza from 6-8:30 p.m. Thursday through Sunday evenings now through Dec. 23.

Admission is $8 at the gate with members and children younger than 5 admitted for free.

There will be plenty of holiday lights, cocoa, live music, Santa and more.

Hollywood 16 to screen 'West Side Story' for 60th anniversary

TCM Big Screen Classics Presents "West Side Story 60th Anniversary" on the big screen at Cinemark Hollywood 16 & XD, 9100 Canyon Drive, at 3 and 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 28, and and 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 1.

This electrifying musical, with music by Leonard Bernstein and lyrics from Stephen Sondheim, sets the ageless tragedy of Romeo and Juliet in the slums of 1950's New York.

"West Side Story" explores the rivalry between two teenage street gangs – white working-class Jets and Puerto Rican Sharks. When a member of the Jets falls in love with the sister of the Sharksʼ leader, things look hopeful at first, but rapidly go downhill. Illustrating the events are many memorable song and dance numbers such as "America", "Somewhere" and "I Feel Pretty".

Starring Natalie Wood, Rita Moreno, Russ Tamblyn, Richard Beymer and George Chakiris, the film went on to win 10 Academy Awards on its original release in 1961.

Something’s Coming to theatres for this special 60th anniversary event will feature exclusive insights from Turner Classic Movies.

Amarillo Symphony to perform 'Messiah'

The Amarillo Symphony presents Handel's Messiah at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 3, at the Globe-News Center for the Performing Arts, 500 S. Buchanan St.

Messiah is an English-language oratorio composed in 1741 by George Frideric Handel, with a scriptural text compiled by Charles Jennens from the King James Bible, and from the Coverdale Psalter, the version of the Psalms included with the Book of Common Prayer.

Williams brings Christmas tour to Amarillo

Zach Williams brings his I Don’t Want Christmas to End Tour to the Globe-News Center for the Performing Arts at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7.

The Jonesboro, Arkansas-raised and currently Nashville, Tennessee-based artist has become one of CCM’s leading artists and songwriters by carving a niche with his singular blend of southern rock, country, and faith-filled songwriting, which quickly awarded him his first GRAMMY Award® with his debut album, 2017’s "Chain Breaker".

ALT presents 'A Doublewide, Texas Christmas'

Amarillo Little Theatre will perform "A Doublewide, Texas Christmas" from Dec. 2-12 at the theater,

Performances are at 7:30 p.m. on Thursdays, 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday.

In this comedy, it’s Christmas-time in the newest — and tiniest — town in Texas. And it’s beginning to look a lot like trouble in Doublewide. Not only are the trailer park residents dealing with the stress of the holiday season, but they’ve just discovered that Doublewide is being double-crossed!

Determined to bolster their legitimacy, the citizens set their sights on the county-wide “Battle of The Mangers” competition. They conspire to win this smackdown with their “Nativity At The Alamo” entry…by any means possible.

WT to host annual holiday concerts

Holiday music will be sweetly sung (and played) o’er the plains at a pair of upcoming Christmas performances from the West Texas A&M University School of Music.

Up first: the WT Chamber Singers’ Christmas concert at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 4 in the Sybil B. Harrington Fine Arts Complex Recital Hall.

This intimate performance will feature music from the Renaissance and Classic eras, said conductor Dr. Sean Pullen, associate professor of music and director of choral activities.

Then, the next day, “Music of the Christmas Season” will feature the WT Symphony Orchestra, WT choirs and the Canyon High School Chamber Choir. Performances are scheduled for 4 and 7 p.m. Dec. 5 in Mary Moody Northen Recital Hall. Admission is free, but tickets are required. The 4 p.m. concert is already sold out.

Those who can’t attend in person can still see “Music of the Christmas Season” when it airs 7 p.m. Dec. 21, midnight Dec. 23, 8 p.m. Dec. 24 and 1 a.m. Dec. 26 on Panhandle PBS.

AC concert band hosting holiday concert

The Amarillo College Concert Band is hosting its holiday concert at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, at the Concert Hall Theater on the Washington Street Campus.

The concert is free and open to the public.

Museum hosting holiday open house

The Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum, 2503 4th Ave., Canyon, is hosting its annual Christmas Open House from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 4.

The museum will be filled with Christmas activities for the community. In the snowy woods of Hazlewood Lecture Hall, Santa will be in his sleigh ready to listen to all of the kids’ Christmas wishes. Throughout the museum, children can make fun holiday-themed crafts like a popsicle-stick Christmas ornament or an accordion tree.

The Amarillo and Canyon Libraries will tell Christmas stories in a cozy setting while children’s choirs sing Christmas tunes that fill the museum with holiday cheer emceed by KAMR.

Santa's Helpers will also have station to make the staple holiday snack–Christmas cookies. The Museum Store will also be offering a special discount on the whole store for all the holiday shopping needs, and there will be plenty of fun family photo opportunities under balloon arches.

While the event is free of charge, suggested admission is one can of food per person to benefit the High Plains Food Bank.

Lone Star Ballet presents 'The Nutcracker'

Lone Star Ballet presents "The Nutcracker" on Dec. 10-12 at the Amarillo Civic Center Complex Auditorium, Entrance 10.

The story of The Nutcracker is loosely based on the E.T.A. Hoffmann fantasy story "The Nutcracker and the Mouse King", about a girl who befriends a nutcracker that comes to life on Christmas Eve and wages a battle against the evil Mouse King.

Friday's performance is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.; Saturday at 3 and 8 p.m.; and Sunday at 2 and 6 p.m.

Church hosting 'Whoville' holiday production

Your Summit Church, 2008 12th Ave., Canyon, is presenting "Together in Whoville: A Christmas Production" at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 11.

This production is based on the movie "The Grinch".

During this evening there will be hot chocolate, coffee, a cookie-fest, and more. This event is free and open to the entire community.

Henry Fonda, brilliant as Norman Thayer Jr, angry about being 80 and losing his faculties – Hepburn, his fine all devoted wife who shared his summers at their Maine lakefront home – and the alienated daughter, played by Jane Fonda.

Amarillo Symphony returns holiday pops concert

The Amarillo Symphony presents its annual holiday concert, Happy Holiday Pops at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 18, at the Globe-News Center for the Performing Arts, 500 S. Buchanan St.

Come hear Amarillo’s finest musicians bring your family’s favorite carols, magical classics, and holiday spirit to the stage.

Conducted by Chris Confessore, this concert will also feature the Amarillo Master Chorale, this family friendly concert will leave you caroling all the way home.

Carrington to perform in Amarillo

Rodney Carrington brings his show "Let Me In!" to the Amarillo Civic Center Complex Auditorium at 7 p.m. on Jan. 8.

Carrington is a multi-talented comedian, actor, singer and writer playing sold-out shows around the world as one of the top 10 highest-grossing touring comedians for the past two decades.

A platinum-recording artist, Rodney's recorded eight major record label comedy albums, followed by three albums on his own record label, Laughter's Good Records.

Rodney also added "author" to his list of accomplishments with the release of his book “Rodney Carrington, Coming Clean" published by Hatchette Books.

Over the years, he's starred in his own TV sitcom, “Rodney", which ran for two seasons on ABC, co-wrote and co-starred with Toby Keith in the feature film, “Beer for My Horses,” which won the Tex Ritter Award from the ACM, and starred in his own Netflix special "Here Comes The Truth.”

Romero returns to perform with Chamber Music Amarillo

Chamber Music Amarillo presents Pepe Romero & Beethoven 7 at 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 8 at the Globe-News Center for the Performing Arts.

Returning to Amarillo for a third time, world renowned classical guitarist Pepe Romero will take the stage with conductor Michael Palmer and the Amarillo Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra.

Romero and his family of multigenerational guitarists have been hailed “The Royal Family of Guitar” and are beloved throughout the world. Romero will perform the Joaquin Rodrigo Concierto de Aranjuez that is a musical retelling of the composer’s story of love and tragedy. The program closes with an exciting presentation featuring Palmer and the chamber orchestra performing Beethoven’s seventh symphony.
