ALLIANCE – The Alliance YWCA wants to empower women through fashion for Women's History Month.

The agency will host "Empowered Women Empower Women Fashion Show" on March 26 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. The event will showcase clothing items from the YWCA's Career and Fashion Boutique, which offers new and gently used pieces at prices between 50 cents and $1.

Members of the community will be modeling outfits they created using items from the boutique and sharing how these looks empower them.

Alliance YWCA Executive Director Stacie Weimer said the event aims to show the role that fashion plays in making women feel confident as well as highlight the services provided by boutique.

Clothing available at the boutique is meant for women to wear for job interviews and to help them sustain employment. Weimer said anyone who attends the fashion show will receive one free item from the boutique.

The Alliance YWCA hosted its first fashion show last fall. The idea came about after the agency started brainstorming ways to bring awareness to the fashion boutique.

The event is a collaboration between the YWCA and the University of Mount Union. Weimer said it is the first fashion show they will put on to celebrate Women's History Month.

It is free and open to the public.

"It's important to go out there and support community events," Weimer said.

The Alliance YWCA's Career and Fashion Boutique is open Monday and Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday from 9 a.m. to noon and Thursday by appointment.
