Alison Hammond pays tribute to 'beautiful, wonderful' mum after she dies of cancer

This Morning’s Alison Hammond has dedicated Valentine’s Day to her mum, who has lost her battle with liver and lung cancer.

The showbiz reporter told her followers on social media that her “beautiful, wonderful” mother Maria was laid to rest this week.

Sharing pictures of the pair together, Hammond, 45, said that she would try to make her mum “proud”.

She wrote: “Today I dedicate Valentine’s Day to my beautiful, wonderful Mother Maria who passed away from liver and lung cancer.

“Yesterday my family and I celebrated her amazing life and laid her to rest in a beautiful ceremony she would have been proud of.

“Thank you mummy for giving me the strength to move forward in the knowledge that your ok and with God in Heaven now.

“I will always remember you and try and make you proud.”

“I love you mum,” she added.

Hammond shared more pictures of her mum on Twitter and added: "RIP my best friend and Living Angel please come to my dreams."

The TV star’s moving posts were met with messages of support from fans and fellow celebrities including model and presenter Nicola McLean, who tweeted: “Sending love.”

Hammond’s ITV colleague Sharon Marshall posted a string of hearts on Twitter, saying: “Love you darling Ali.”

Hammond found fame as a Big Brother housemate in 2002 and has been appearing on This Morning since 2003.
