Air show, attic sale, doggie kissing booth: 10 things to do in metro Detroit this weekend
The second weekend of August brings more music festivals, a picnic for dog lovers, an air show, a film festival and more family-friendly events throughout metro Detroit.
Here are 10 things to do the weekend of Aug. 12
Charivari Detroit
Detroit’s electronic music and craft brewing communities team up for this dance music festival through Sunday at Historic Fort Wayne, 6325 W. Jefferson Ave. Six Detroit independent microbreweries will be featured in the Detroit Brewery Garden. They include Batch Brewing Company, Brew Detroit, Brewery Faisan, Eastern Market Brewing Company, Motor City Brewing Works and Tenacity Craft.
There will also be vendors, food trucks, artists, yoga and three stages of DJs representing house, techno, funk, disco, jazz, new wave, electro and pop music.
6-11 p.m. Thursday and Friday, noon to 11 p.m. Saturday and 2-11 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $125 for all 4 days or $40 for a single day ticket. Children 14 and younger are free. High school students are free with proof of student ID. 6325 W. Jefferson in Detroit.
Air Show
This 35th annual air show at Oakland County International Airport will feature a number of performers showcasing unique aircrafts.
Performers include: the Misty Blues All Woman Skydiving Team; Susan Dacy flying her Super Stearman; Michael Vaknin flying the Extra 300L; Galen Killam flying the RV-8 "Hammerhead"; Skip Stewart flying "Prometheus," and Stephen Covington flying "The Raptor," a highly modified Pitts S-2S.
There will also be a display of military aircraft and support vehicles, airplane and helicopter rides, a health fair, kid's zone play area and more.
9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Airshow is from 1:30 to 3 p.m., 6500 Patterson Parkway in Waterford. Free admission and parking.
Attic Sale in Boston-Edison Historic District
Antiques, furniture, books, appliances, tools, paintings, clothing and more will be spread out over 36 blocks of the Boston-Edison Historic District and neighboring streets during this annual neighborhood attic sale.
9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. Maps can be picked up at the welcome center, 1211 Boston Blvd. in Detroit.
Pierogi Festival
Polish cuisine, a beer tent, resale shop, specialty vendors, bake sale and live music from the Steve Drzewicki Band, Kielbasa Kings, New Brass Express and more will be at this festival hosted by a Detroit church.
5-10 p.m. Friday, noon to 9 p.m. Saturday; noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at Sweetest Heart of Mary Church, 4440 Russell in Detroit.

Ribs R&B Music Festival
There'll be more than 20 food vendors, full-service bars, shopping and music at this downtown Detroit festival.
Performers include Stokley from Mint Condition, Jon B, Klymaxx feat. Bernadette Cooper, Melvin Riley from Ready for the World and 702.
11:30 a.m. to midnight Friday to Sunday. Free Friday until 4 p.m., $10 afterward; free Saturday and Sunday until 2 p.m., $10 afterward. Hart Plaza, 1 Hart Plaza in Detroit.
Shelby Township Art Fair
Celebrating its 39th anniversary, this fair will include more than 120 artists, artisans and Michigan-made market vendors. There will also be food, music, a kids' craft and activity area and more.
10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at River Bends Park, 5700 22 Mile in Shelby Township.
Kimmie Horne Jazz Festival
Vendors, food trucks and a music lineup that includes Demetrius Nabors, The Satin Dolls, Randy Scott, Michael Brock, Scott Gwinnell, Leslie DeShazor, Daryl Beebe and Kimmie Horne are lined up for this Southfield festival.
6-10:30 p.m. Friday and 3-10:30 p.m. Saturday at Southfield Civic Center, 26000 Evergreen Road. Free admission.
Country Fair at Maybury Farm
The Northville Community Foundation is celebrating 25 years of giving back to the community at Maybury Farm with music by The Whiskey Charmers, games, animals, face painting, juggler Joshua Dasen, magician Chris Mardrosian, wagon rides, food trucks and more.
10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. $10 advance tickets, children under two are free; $13 at the door. 50165 8 Mile in Northville.
Community picnic for dog-lovers and families
The late founder of Mary T’s Chis Chihuahua and Small Breed Rescue in Eastpointe will be honored in an event featuring a range of family- and dog-friendly activities.
The picnic, open to the public, will include a doggy kissing booth, paw print art, an alumni parade, archery lessons, walking trails, bike paths and a “pup-up” shop. It will also feature dog contests for best costume, best dressed, owner lookalikes, and "mysterious mixed mutts."
Noon to 5 p.m. Saturday at Royal Oak Archers, 2762 Orion Road in Oakland Township.
Arab film festival
Arab and Arab American films will be screened virtually and in-person Aug. 12-21 at this festival hosted by the Arab American National Museum.
Each film is subtitled in English.
The first film, Costa Brava, Lebanon, screens at 8:30 p.m. Friday.
