Aiken Realtors association expo offers tips, advice to area homebuyers

Oct. 23—The Aiken Association of Realtors hosted a HomeOwnership Expo on Saturday at the H. Odell Weeks Activities Center. .

The event had speakers from different organizations talk about different neighborhoods, services being offered and first-time buying.

"I hope everyone realizes that everyone can be a homeowner and it is a dream that anyone can achieve," said Tabatha Amodio, association executive with the Aiken Association of Realtors.

Last year, the event was cancelled due to COVID, this year, however, the Weeks center was full of vendors ready to help.

"Aiken offers a lot of things to a lot of different people from different walks of life," said Ed Girardeau, broker/owner of ReMax. "...from young people coming in who are buying their first home to older people who are retired, we have a lot of those here in Aiken."

A common mistake first-time homebuyers make is not knowing exactly what they can afford and what resources are available, said Girardeau. He added the HomeOwnership Expo was a great opportunity to speak with a realestate agent who can answer questions about the process and offer advice about lenders, movers and contractors.

Girardeau called the expo a "one-stop shop" to see all the tools available when looking to purchase a home.

"It's a good opportunity for people who want to buy a new home or want advice on owning a home," said Girardeau.

In addition to offering tip to future homeowners, there was also family fun outside with costume contest, vendors and a food truck.
