Aiken County schools celebrate 100th day

Jan. 26—Aiken County schools celebrated the 100th day of school on Wednesday.

In honor of the celebration, students throughout the district dressed up. At Byrd Elementary School, Principal Renae Enlow said they celebrated with students either dressing as 100-year-olds, dressing as if they were in 1922 or wearing something with 100 on it.

Teachers were excited for the day, with many having different activities planned to celebrate.

First grade teacher Stacy Mayson said several of her students dressed up as 100-year-olds, and they had some fun things planned.

"We're very excited for it to be the 100th day of school," Mayson said. "It feels like we've been here forever... we're doing several fun activities throughout the day, our school is doing a parade this afternoon."

Linda Eubanks, a first grade teacher at Byrd Elementary said they've accomplished a lot in the first 100 days.

"It feels like we've accomplished a lot with children that have missed a lot of school, and they have achieved so much in these 100 days; that's satisfying," Eubanks said. "We still have a lot more to go, but we're excited."

Candice Dooley, a pre-K 5 teacher, said her they made 100th day hats and were writing about what the students want 100 of.

Alyse Meierhenry, a pre-K 5 teacher, said it feels great to make it to 100 days "because we're surviving another year of chaos."

Meierhenry said her students did a lot of counting to 100 and read 100 day stories in honor of the event. She also had several students dress up as 100-year-olds.
