Aespa members team up with their avatars to fight villain Black Mamba in the new ‘Savage’ MV

K-pop girl group Aespa has teamed up with their virtual avatars to fight the villainous Black Mamba in the music video for "Savage," the title track of their first EP.

The story so far: “Savage,” a follow-up to the group’s other tracks “Black Mamba” and “Next Level,” sees members Karina, Giselle, Winter and Ningning traveling to the wilderness, according to Rappler.

  • We’re joined by our (artificial intelligence) helper Navis, who will assist us in our battle against Black Mamba,” Winter told The Korea Herald.

  • Savage” incorporates SM Entertainment’s experimental trademark genre called CAWMAN (Cartoon, Animation, Webtoon, Motion graphics, Avatar and Novel). The genre was created by the company’s chief producer and founder Lee Soo-man.

  • The genre aims to bring together “various (visual) techniques to portray the world of SMCU (SM Culture Universe), at which Aespa’s universe takes place,” Karina explained.

  • Savage,” a trap song, was composed by Kirsten Collins, Jia Lih, Yoo Young-jin and Hautboi Rich, Soompi reported. Yoo also wrote the Korean lyrics.

About the EP: The EP comes with six songs that feature different genres, from energetic dance tunes to emotional pop songs.

  • We hope that the album could prove Aespa is a group capable of a diverse musical spectrum and also show that our universe will continue to expand,” Karina said added.

  • The group made its debut under its label SM Entertainment in November 2020. Aespa is the first K-pop group to feature human and virtual members.
