When you think of all your favorite fast-food breakfast spots, McDonald's and Wendy's are likely the first to come to mind. But soon there will be a brand new breakfast option in town, as another beloved burger joint is opening its doors to customers looking for a morning meal at all hours of the day.

Smashburger, which brands itself as "a better burger restaurant," recently announced plans to roll out an all-day breakfast service in locations around the country. The chain had quietly began testing its breakfast menu at just 10 stores and recently expanded the successful pilot program to 30 locations. (Related: McDonald's Is Making These 8 Major Upgrades.)

While we don't yet know when Smashburger plans to roll out its breakfast menu nationwide, we do know that the chain plans to keep adding the new breakfast to an increasing number of locations. In addition, all the new Smashburger restaurants will also offer the breakfast selections.

So, what type of grub can we expect to see on the Smashburger breakfast menu? The chain is currently offering an Egg&Cheese Sandwich served on a toasted brioche bun that can be ordered plain or, for an added protein boost, with your choice of bacon or sausage. If you're feeling all of those toppings, you can also get them in a burger: the Breakfast Smashburger is layered with egg, bacon, sausage, and aged cheddar.

Each breakfast sandwich can also be ordered with a side of Breakfast Tots, hot or iced coffee, and even a milkshake made with cold brew and Häagen-Dazs ice cream.

Breakfast sales have been volatile during the pandemic, and while it may seem like the fast-food breakfast market is saturated with plenty of great options, the chain is living proof there's always room for another tasty addition. According to Smashburger's president Carl Bachmann, the new breakfast has been particularly popular among frontline workers.

"We know the traffic patterns have changed," he told Restaurant Business. "The traffic had changed and people were looking for comfort. A lot of those frontliners were working and looking for options. It really has worked out well for us."
