Adams father and son hurt in Mower County motorcycle crash

Jun. 24—AUSTIN — A 17-year-old Adams boy and his father were hospitalized Wednesday night following a motorcycle crash.

A motorcycle driven by 49-year-old Timothy Stafford crashed about 9:30 p.m. on Mower County Road 7, north of Adams. Stafford, and his 17-year-old son William Stafford, suffered non-life threatening injuries in the crash.

A witness told Mower County Sheriff's deputies that he was behind the motorcycle when the crash occurred and saw the elder Stafford hit the center uneven lane and lose control of his motorcycle, according to a news release from the Sheriff's Office.

That portion of road is being repaved and is posted with signs about the construction and uneven pavement, according to the Mower County Sheriff's Office

The 17-year-old Stafford was tossed from the motorcycle while the elder Stafford stayed on the bike as it fell and skidded across the road.

Timothy Stafford reportedly told deputies he was northbound on County Road 6 when his pack of cigarettes fell off the bike. Stafford said he tried to turn around to look for them and was unaware the lanes were uneven, hit the lip of the uneven pavement and lost control of the motorcycle.
