Abilene High boys steal one from Midland Legacy in District 2-6A basketball thriller
Jeremiah Talib’s layup with 13 seconds left in the game lifted Abilene High to a 56-55 victory over Midland Legacy in a District 2-6A boys basketball game Friday at Eagle Gym.
Legacy inbounded the ball with 25.5 seconds remaining leading 55-54. The Rebels managed to get the ball past half court and just needed to run out the clock, but Demarco Upshaw came up with a steal near the 3-point line with 18 seconds left.
He fed to Talib, who caught the ball just inside the half-court line and sliced through two defenders to score the winning basket.
Talib led AHS (9-17 overall, 2-4 district) with a game-high 24 points, while Hayden Williams had 18.
Christopher Brazzell led Legacy (14-11, 2-4) with 19 points, and Donny Bishop had 14.
The Eagles have a bye Tuesday before going to Wolfforth Frenship on Friday.
Lady Rebels roll past AHS girls
Three Midland Legacy players scored in double figures as the Lady Rebels beat Abilene High 61-25 in a District 2-6A game at Eagle Gym.
Jazmyn Johnson led Legacy (22-5, 6-1) with a game-high 14 points, while Myleah Young and Sa’Nya Green had 11 each. The trio combined for seven of the Lady Rebels’ 10-3-point goals, including four by Johnson.
Amyah Starks led AHS (5-24, 0-8) with eight points, followed by Shaliyah Christian-Stevenson with seven, and Grace Jordan with six.
The Lady Eagles also have a bye before going to league-leader Frenship.
