88Rising is Holding a Benefit Concert for Asian Mental Health

Mass media platform 88Rising is bringing together a powerhouse of Asian talent in a benefit concert for the nonprofit Asian Mental Health Collective (AMHC) this week.

What you need to know: The concert, titled “Asia Rising Together,” will stream on 88Rising’s YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and SiriusXM channels on May 26, at 7 p.m. PT.

  • The concert will feature performances by Atarashii Gakko!, Audrey Mika, Audrey Nuna, Bizzy, eaJ (of DAY6), Guapdad 4000, KOAD, Luna Li, mxmtoon, Niki, Seori, Tiger JK and yoonmirae.

  • CL will kick off the program with a special introduction. Special guests include RZA, Dumbfounded and Ocean Vuong.

  • Aside from musical performances, the concert will highlight artist stories and identity, as well as AAPI-led businesses and organizations across multiple industries.

  • The event will spotlight Asian American organizations such as the AMHC, The Vietnamese American Community Center of the East Bay, MAMA Drive By Kitchen and Burdock Media.

  • The event is sponsored by AT&T and "presented in partnership with Netflix," according to Billboard.


What AMHC is: The Asian Mental Health Collective is an organization of Asian therapists and mental health professionals serving the community, who met on the Facebook group Subtle Asian Mental Health in 2018.

  • 88Rising Founder and Chief Executive Officer Sean Miyashiro told Billboard that mental health is a “critical” issue at present and that they partnered with AMHC to “show what the process of therapy is and how effective it can be.”

  • Earlier this month, the nonprofit announced that it will launch a subsidized therapy program to make therapy more accessible — in collaboration with the Asian-owned orchid.exchange — with a starting budget of $88,000.

  • The organization is also preparing sustainable initiatives going into the 2021 and 2022 years with plans to launch a new website with expanded therapist directories and open up more free community support groups.

  • "We are collaborating with corporations, government and community organizations for long-term strategy including SAMHSA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration)," AMHC's Board told NextShark. "We are also working on long-term sponsorship and funding where we get annual sponsorship each year guaranteed. Jeanie [AMHC's President and Board Chairperson] is in talks with her corporate clients."
