76-year-old man found dead at scene of Chatham house fire

A 76-year-old man was found dead at the scene of a structure fire in Chatham early Friday.

Chatham Fire Chief Gary Self said firefighters responded to the blaze in the 3800 block of Mansion Road at 1:21 a.m. They found the home engulfed in flames when they arrived.

Sangamon County Coroner Jim Allmon, in a release, said the identity of the man is pending notification of next of kin. An autopsy is scheduled Friday.

Firefighters located the man, according to the coroner.
