74-year-old woman in custody after pursuit on U.S. 90 outside East Milton

A 74-year-old woman is under medical observation after leading Florida Highway Patrol troopers on a pursuit down U.S. 90 outside East Saturday afternoon.

At approximately 12:40 p.m., two troopers were traveling westbound on U.S. 90 in the vicinity of Paddle Wheel Drive. A silver Honda Pilot SUV approached and passed the first trooper at a high rate of speed, according to an FHP news release.

The trooper activated his emergency lights and siren to initiate a traffic stop, however the SUV continued down U.S. 90 and passed the second trooper.

As the vehicles approached the Intersection of State Road 87, the Honda Pilot struck a stopped vehicle and continued traveling.

The lead trooper initiated a PIT maneuver to spin the driver's car, ending the pursuit just west of SR 87. According to the the release, the driver of the appeared confused as she was taken into custody and said she was heading to her home in Malone, a town in Jackson County.

Santa Rosa EMS responded to the scene and transported the driver to Santa Rosa Medical Center for

observation. There were no reported injuries in the incident.

The driver's identity was not released. A relative was notified of the incident.

Criminal charges are pending with the State Attorney’s Office.
