72 new cases of COVID-19 confirmed in Luzerne County on Monday; 2,569 statewide

Sep. 20—WILKES-BARRE — The latest Department of Health report on Monday showed Luzerne County with 72 new cases of COVID-19 and no new deaths. The county's death count is at 857.

The county's total cases are now at 35,950 since the pandemic began last year.

Neighboring Lackawanna County has 20,530 cases and 495 deaths; Monroe County has 17,499 cases and 342 deaths.

The Department of Health on Monday confirmed that as of 12 a.m. there were 2,569 additional positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the statewide cumulative total to 1,382,933.

Statewide percent positivity for the week of Sept. 10-Sept. 16, stood at 8.9%.

Vaccination highlights

According to the CDC, as of Sunday, Sept. 19:

—Pennsylvania ranks 5th among all 50 states for total doses administered.

—67.8% of Pennsylvanians age 18 and older are fully vaccinated.

—Vaccine providers have administered 12,588,317 total vaccine doses, including 66,545 additional doses authorized for people who are immuno-compromised, as of Monday, Sept. 20.

—6,146,333 people are fully vaccinated; with 50,178 vaccinations administered since Friday and a seven-day moving average of more than 15,900 people per day receiving vaccinations.

Statewide data

There are 2,337 individuals hospitalized with COVID-19. Of that number, 589 patients are in the intensive care unit with COVID-19.

Between 11:59 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17 and 11:59 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 19, there were 52 new deaths identified by the Pennsylvania death registry, reported for a total of 28,864 deaths attributed to COVID-19.

There are 215,928 individuals who have a positive viral antigen test and are considered probable cases.

There are 5,344,407 individuals who have tested negative to date.

Approximately 30,770 of total cases have been among health care workers.
