7 Arts Gallery closing at end of year

Dec. 5—7 Arts Gallery will close at the end of the year after 5 1/2 years at 125 Lincoln Ave., Suite 110.

Artist Tom McGee co-launched 3 Studios on Canyon Road in 2016. A year later, he moved to Lincoln Avenue and renamed the artists' collective 7 Arts Gallery.

"It's a true collective," McGee said. "I kind of underwrite it. My name is on the lease. I'm more the coordinator."

McGee chose not to renew the lease that expires Dec. 31.

"They won't do less than three years," he said. "I don't want to be on the hook for three years. It's time for me to think about other things. I'm not there as much now."

The collective has seven member artists who display and work at 7 Arts. McGee said over the years there were 12 member artists and 20 guest artists.

"Each artist keeps 100 percent of what they sell," he said.

7 Arts Gallery will have a community celebration from 3 to 7 p.m. Dec. 17 with many current and former member and guest artists in attendance, with art for sale at special prices and an hourly art giveaway, McGee said.
