These 6 events in the Charlotte area will honor fallen service members on Memorial Day
Memorial Day is more than just a day off from work to fire up the grill, lounge by the pool, and hang out with friends and family. It is a holiday is to honor fallen military service members who died while serving their country.
Here are six ways you and your loved ones can partake in Memorial Day events in the Charlotte area.
Fort Mill Memorial Day HONOR Run 2022
Location: 3387 Richard’s Crossing, Fort Mill, SC 29708
Details: The annual Memorial Day Remembrance Run in collaboration with the RWB Charlotte chapter Team Red, White and Blue will be held Monday at 7:30 a.m. Participants can choose to walk or run over a span ranging from one mile to six miles.
Matthews Holiday Bike Series
Location: 232 Matthews Station St, Matthews, NC 28105
Details: The Memorial Day Ride as part of the Matthews Holiday Ride Series will take place at 8 a.m. on Monday. Bikers will have the option of going on a 53-mile trip or a shorter 30-mile ride.
Memorial Day Ceremony in Huntersville
Location: 14008 Holbrooks Road, Huntersville, NC 28078
Details: Starting at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Huntersville and American Legion Post 321 is holding its 21st annual Memorial Day Ceremony at Veterans Park. There, the Community Singers of Lake Norman will provide music, and local BSA Troop 19 will distribute mini flags to spectators. At 11 a.m., a “salute to the fallen” will be conducted by American Legion Post 321, with colors presented and an instrumental selection by bagpipe player David Thornburg.
Memorial Day Ceremony in Waxhaw

Details: A memorial ceremony is scheduled to be held at the Military Wall of Honor in downtown Waxhaw at 10 a.m. Monday.
Memorial Day Observance at Cornelius Town Hall

Details: Near the Cornelius Veterans Monument at Rotary Plaza on Monday at 10 a.m., the town will honor the fallen with a program that includes, POW/MIA Empty Chair, Wreath of Remembrance ceremonies and a 21-gun salute.
