40 most popular dog and cat names in Phoenix in 2022: Is your pet's name on this list?

The most popular pet names of the past decade, Max and Bella, appear to be losing some favor in Phoenix.

According to Rover’s annual top names report for 2022, Phoenix pet owners have replaced Max as the most popular name for male dogs with Charlie, and Bella fell to fifth place for female cats (but remains at #1 for female dogs).

The app that connects users with pet sitters and dog walkers analyzed millions of user-submitted pet names provided to Rover.com to determine most popular names for cats and dogs this year as well as some more distinctive names that are trending.

Phoenix’s top 10 most popular male dog names

Charlie has ousted Max as the #1 name for male dogs in Phoenix this year — but Max remains the top name nationally. Chester increased in popularity by 684% compared to 2021, earning the title of top-trending dog name.

Food names for dogs and cats: Churro and Phoenix are trending

Rover also identified the top trending food-related names for dogs in Phoenix: Churro, Peach and Lemon. There are more cats named Coconut and Miso this year, too.

There are 278% more cats named Phoenix compared to last year.
