The Federal Reserve signaled Wednesday that it may start raising its benchmark interest rate sometime next year, earlier than it envisioned three months ago and a sign that it's concerned that high inflation pressures may persist. In a statement, the Fed also said it will likely begin slowing the pace of its monthly bond purchases later this year if the economy keeps improving. Taken together, the Fed's plans reflect its belief that the economy has recovered sufficiently from the pandemic recession for it to soon begin dialing back the extraordinary support it provided after the coronavirus paralyzed the economy 18 months ago.
Airbus led a chorus of pledges by aviation leaders to cut emissions under an eco-friendly new slogan on Wednesday, but was forced to defend its jet-selling business under criticism from campaigners urging the industry to tame its growth. The European company, which last year announced plans to develop a hydrogen-powered airplane from 2035, said aviation could only hit net-zero carbon emissions in 2050 if airports, airlines and air traffic systems also embraced radical change. "Reaching net zero will be the result of a truly unparalleled act of cooperation," Executive Vice President Julie Kitcher told the "Airbus Summit", attended by policymakers and airlines including easyJet and Lufthansa.

SNY Play Ball presented by Chick-fil-A has awarded the Belleville Department of Recreation with a $5,000 grant to purchase helmets and catcher’s gear, and to repair a damaged batting cage. The equipment is much needed due to Covid safety protocols no longer allowing for sharing among players. The new batting cage will enhance the practice and development for the players in the league. Belleville provides baseball and softball programs to its community’s youth free of charge, one of the few towns in the country that does so. Within the town nearly 1 in 5 children grow up in poverty, and funding has been drastically decreased due to a major decline in tax revenue caused in part by four major industrial facilities either closing or relocating from the Township. Despite these challenges, they have sustained the ability to offer free baseball and softball programs for 600+ youth.
