CHARLTON — A 24-year-old Grafton woman was killed in a crash on Route 20 Sunday night when her Toyota Camry went off the road and collided with a piece of construction equipment that was parked on private property.

Ariana Lynn Sanko-Pantojas, 24, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which occurred shortly before 9 p.m. and just after a torrential rainstorm that left the roadway wet, police said.

A preliminary investigation indicates that Sanko-Pantojas was headed east on Route 20 near L. Stevens Road when the crash occurred. Police said the 2001 Camry was found off the road in the wood line on L. Stevens Road with significant crash-related damage.

"For reasons still under investigation, the vehicle left the surface of the road, striking a piece of construction equipment, that was not in use and parked off the roadway on private property. The vehicle then traversed the property at 166 Worcester Road, crossing L. Stevens Road before coming to rest at the wood line," Charlton police wrote in a news release.

Sanko-Pantojas was alone in the vehicle, police said.

The Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, Massachusetts State Police Crime Scene Services Section and the Worcester  District Attorney’s Office are investigating the crash, Charlton police said.
