23 people test positive for COVID-19 in Northwestern Wisconsin

Apr. 13—An additional 23 Northwestern Wisconsin residents tested positive for COVID-19, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services reported Tuesday, April 13.

They were reported as follows: 10 in Douglas County; four in Washburn County; three in Burnett County; two in Price County; and one each in Ashland, Iron, Rusk, Sawyer and Taylor counties. Cases in Bayfield County dropped by one.

Statewide, an additional 922 cases were reported Tuesday, DHS said, bringing the total to 586,632.

An additional 10 deaths reported statewide Tuesday, bringing the total to 6,690, DHS said. Overall, 1.1% of people who have contracted the virus have died.

The seven-day average of positive COVID-19 cases in Wisconsin rose slightly. On Tuesday, the figure was 794. The seven-day average of positive cases measures the average number of new cases per day over the previous week. An overall increase in the seven-day average of positive cases indicates the number of confirmed COVID-19 infections in the state is also going up, according to DHS.

The number of negative tests in the state was 2,778,854 Tuesday, an increase of 2,963.

An additional 70 people have been hospitalized because of the virus since Monday, bringing the total to 28,244. Overall, 4.8% of Wisconsinites who contracted the virus have been hospitalized. Across the state, 304 people are currently hospitalized because of COVID-19, and the total number of people receiving treatment in intensive care units is 75. DHS reported that 80% of the state's available hospital beds are occupied.

Tuesday's report also showed that 97.4% of the people who have tested positive for the virus have recovered. That means 1.5%, or 8,616 cases, are currently active.

DHS also reports that 3,572,358 doses of vaccine have been administered by Tuesday with 2,190,652 Wisconsin residents, 37.6% of the population, receiving at least one dose of vaccine, and 1,441,345 people completing the vaccine series.
