The Oscars telecast may not actually be until March 12, 2023, a full nine months away, BUT that doesn't mean that there aren't plenty of films in the hunt for Oscar gold already available for your viewing pleasure. This year, every film with a theatrical release (prior to its streaming release) from January 1 to December 31 is eligible (sorry Good Luck to You, Leo Grande), a return to form after last year's shortened COVID season. And while many of the presumed heavy hitters won't be making their way to the big screen until fall, plenty of contenders have already emerged. From blockbusters in the hunt for technical awards to small indie dramas hoping to build hype as the year goes on, there are plenty of worthy films out now. And if you are an Oscar lover, (or just someone looking for a film to watch on a Friday summer night in the refuge of your AC), you've got plenty to choose from. Here are 23 films from the first half of 2022 that have Oscar buzz in some way, shape, or form.
