The 2021 Iron Bowl introduced us to Alabama’s next star WR in Ja’Corey Brooks

There is a false narrative in the recruiting industry that freshmen can’t play at Alabama. Actually, not only is it false, it’s ridiculously off base. During the Nick Saban era in Tuscaloosa, freshmen players have had a tremendous impact on the program. From the likes of Julio Jones and Mark Ingram. To more recent stars such as Tua Tagovailoa and DeVonta Smith.

The Crimson Tide faithful was introduced to perhaps the next freshman standout in wide receiver Ja’Corey Brooks.

Brooks has played sparingly throughout the season but saw his playing time increase during the Iron Bowl after star-wideout Jameson Williams was ejected for targeting.

It wasn’t until late into the contest when Brooks made his presence known.

On Alabama’s final drive in regulation, Crimson Tide quarterback Bryce Young connected with Brooks two times for 49 yards, including the game-tying touchdown reception of 28 yards.

In perhaps the most critical moments of one of the most intense rivalries, Brooks stepped up and etched his name Crimson Tide lore. Further disproving the mindless myth that freshmen can’t make an impact for the Tide.

With Brooks’ exceptional length (standing at 6’2″), and his elite athleticism, added with the need that Alabama has for a true third option at receiver, he could really see his playing time increase down the stretch.

Brooks is a former 5-star prospect from Miami, Florida. His play on Saturday showed why he was such a coveted recruit.
