2021 Billboard Music Awards Set to Air in May

NBC and Dick Clark Productions have announced that the 2021 Billboard Music Awards will take place on Sunday, May 23.

The show will air live on NBC at 8 p.m. ET/ 5 p.m. PT, and will serve to celebrate the hottest names in music today. The honorees are determined by their performance on the Billboard charts, and the ceremony will feature live performances, unexpected collaborations, pop culture moments and the granting of the annual ICON award.

Hosted by Kelly Clarkson, the 2020 Billboard Music Awards aired on Oct. 14 after its original springtime date was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Post Malone was the big winner of the night, taking home a total of nine awards including top artist and top rap album for “Hollywood’s Bleeding.” Other winners included Billie Eilish for top new artist, Harry Styles for chart achievement, Jonas Brothers for top duo/group, Lizzo for top song sales artist, BTS for top social artist, Pink for top touring artist, Khalid for top R&B artist, Luke Combs for top country artist and Panic! At the Disco for top rock artist.

Malone also put on a pyro-filled performance during the show from a secret location in L.A. Other performances included Clarkson, Sia, Alicia Keys, Luke Combs, John Legend, Demi Lovato, Doja Cat, Bad Bunny and more.

Billboard Music Awards nominees and winners are determined based on album and song sales, streaming, radio airplay, touring and social engagement tracked by Billboard and its data partners. Additional details regarding the production of the show will be announced at a later date.
