Designers use physics to create a tray that won’t spill
The Tipsi Tray was designed with everyone in mind. The single-handed tray looks like the kind you’d see a server use at a restaurant but was created for home life too.
The Tipsi Tray is made of non-slip material and fitted with spill catch edges. Its signature feature is the handle attachment that allows users to carry it with one hand — and if you think fewer hands don’t equate to more stability, in this case it does.
The Tipsi Tray is designed with centripetal force in mind. According to the Tipsi Tray Kickstarter page, what this means is when you hold the tray by the handle, your shoulder becomes the center of rotation. If the contents on the tray are being pulled by gravity (or, in layman’s terms, are about to fall off of the tray), the tray is redirected and everything stays in place.
Basically, the design makes it so the motion of the tray counteracts the movement of everything on the tray.
If you move too slowly or if there’s a lot of stopping and starting mid-swing, the items will spill. But by keeping a loose grip, you should have no trouble letting science work its magic.
The Tipsi Tray is recommended for anyone but especially for the elderly, those with tremor conditions or who only have use of one hand. Walk downstairs, open doors, even ride a skateboard with the Tipsi Tray and you’ll be amazed at how much easier it is to transport food and drinks around.
