There are many ways to straighten your hair, but there may not be a more precise way than a hot comb. Sure, a flat iron and a straightening brush can do wonders, but a hot comb can often give you a finer press.
For Black women like myself, it’s something that we grew up with and it’s one way to get tightly coiled edges and coarse hair bone straight. Since many salons and local beauty supply stores are temporarily closed, there aren’t many options for women — especially Black women — to get their hands on this kind of tool. But you’re not entirely out of luck if you’re trying to recreate a fresh press at home.
If your local beauty supply doesn’t deliver or offer pick up, then it could be worth trying the Infiniti Pro Gold by Conair Straightening Comb. It’s one of the few straightening combs still in stock at a major retailer.

Made with gold plating, this hot comb comes with 30 heat settlings, and claims to provide “up to 380 degrees less damaging heat.” It also heats up within 30 seconds and has a “turbo heat” option to help enhance straightening results, according to the product description. To use, just plug it in and let it heat up and you’re good to go.
It’s important to note that there aren’t a lot of reviews for this hot comb, and that the reviews available were mixed. Some reviewers felt it worked great, while others felt it didn’t supply enough heat for their hair.
One buyer in particular felt that it was a solid product but not strong for straightening large chunks of hair. “It’s good for edges and fine hair which is what I usually need my hot comb for any way. Unfortunately not heavy enough to be highly effective for large sections of hair, and I fear it may snag hair. I’ll keep for quick ‘fixes’ but will seek a heavier version for other jobs.”
If you’re not completely sold and want to explore other options, you might be interested in this one made with silicone and plastic from Gold ‘N Hot. This hot comb also doesn’t have many reviews, but its “Multi-Temp Regulator” allows for temperatures up to 500 degrees Fahrenheit.
