Chucking detergent pods into the washer may be easy, but it may not be the best for the environment. Many detergents contain chemicals, dyes and synthetics that can end up in waterways — and that’s not even to mention the plastic containers that detergents often come packaged in. But one brand is out to change how you see detergent pods, helping to make your laundry day more eco-friendly.

Dropps creates single use pods for laundry and household cleaning that are actually environmentally friendly. The brand uses only plant-based ingredients, and recyclable and compostable cardboard packaging to eliminate single use plastic.

According to the brand, an estimated 17.6 billion pounds of plastic enters oceans every year. That’s roughly equivalent to dumping a garbage truck full of plastic into the oceans every minute.

Founded in 2005, Dropps claims to be the originators of laundry detergent pods. The detergents the brand uses are all natural and vegan — and actually work. Plus, the outer shell of Dropps pods is easily broken down into just water and carbon dioxide by bacteria, yeasts and fungi commonly found in water treatment plants. Depending on the scent and size selection, the pods cost $0.14 to $0.22 per load.

“We believe that individuals and families can take simple steps to replace everyday products that are both eco-responsible and economical – which, if multiplied across a multitude of individuals and families, can have a measurable impact on the planet,” the brand’s website reads.

The brand also ships carbon neutral, furthering their environmentally-friendly practices. Check out some of Dropps products to upgrade your home cleaning methods.
