Beauty gurus, YouTubers, and makeup lovers have something to say when it comes to the base of a makeup routine. Whether you’re someone with oily, dry, normal or combination skin, this one primer is loved by all skin types.

If you haven’t already heard all of the high praises regarding Milk Makeup’s Hydro Grip Primer, then you may not be as in the know (pun intended) with the beauty community as you think. With over 1,000 reviews and more than 70,000 loves on Sephora, shoppers are making a case for why this primer is a go-to skin prepping product.

Though I have normal skin, it’s a thirst-quenching addition to my full face makeup routine. And the brand isn’t lying when it says this primer grips to your foundation. After I apply it (and as soon as it dries down), I can actually feel the tackiness of the product, but without it being grossly sticky. For a long-lasting base, this will do the trick since its got a 12-hour wear time. Plus, it’s got key ingredients like hemp-derived cannabis seed extract for hydration, blue agave extract — which gives the primer its “grip” name — and prickly pear cactus extract and aloe water to calm the skin. Even with those skin-loving ingredients, the primer is vegan and gluten-free.

Sephora’s site says you can apply one to two pumps of primer and letting it dry before applying any base/complexion products. However, in my experience, it’s so thick you won’t want to go overboard with the amount to use. Plus, the pump of the primer bottle itself ensures you get every last drop of product.

One shopper called the Hydro Grip their “holy grail” primer. Another claimed they didn’t even write reviews for products until this one came along. Even beauty influencers like Jackie Aina have called it the ‘Primer of the Year’ when it launched in May of 2019. If you’re down to trust the makeup gurus, you can shop it now at Sephora.com.
