College recruiter fired over ‘disgusting’ meeting with high schoolers: ‘Let's play a little game’

A college recruiter has been fired after his visit to an Oklahoma City high school left several students “disgusted” and some in tears.

The incident occurred when a recruiter representing Oklahoma Christian University was visiting an 11th-grade class at Harding Charter Preparatory on Feb. 24, KFOR-TV reported.

During the visit, the unnamed man allegedly asked students to line up based on their skin color and hairstyle.

“He barely talked about the school itself,” one student, Korey Todd, told KFOR-TV. “He was like, ‘Let’s play a little game … everyone now line up from darkest to lightest skin complexion.’”

The recruiter, reportedly a white man, then asked students to reorder themselves, so those with the “nappiest hair” were standing in the back of the line.

“Teachers left,” another Harding student, Rio Brown told KFOR-TV. “They were crying and they were offended. Their faces just look disgusted. I know they had a talk with him after, like, ‘That’s not okay.'”

Oklahoma Christian University released a statement to KFOR-TV shortly after the incident, stating that the recruiter had been fired. The college also condemned the man’s actions and promised to apologize to the students in person.

“[The university’s] admissions leadership did not approve the inappropriate activity in advance and has communicated closely with Harding administration since the visit,” the statement read.

Harding’s principal, Steven Stefanick also condemned the recruiter’s behavior, calling his comments “inappropriate and hurtful.”

“Our community, from its inception, has valued diversity, inclusion, and a safe and supportive learning environment,” Stefanick added. “We will continue to do so.”
