Demi Lovato has been through hell and back -- and now she's got the ink to prove it.

The 27-year-old singer took to Instagram on Wednesday to share a photo of a stunning new piece of back art done by tattoo artist Alesandro Capozzi.

The drawing, which depicts a fallen angel being lifted into the sky by three doves (which Lovato references as 'the Holy trinity') is meant to symbolize the 'spiritual awakening' Lovato felt she was having upon entering a career comeback after taking a hiatus following a nearly fatal overdose in July 2018.

"Getting tatted by [Capozzi] was an experience I’ve never had before.. no idea what I was going to get done, I told him about my life and where I was at in that moment and we created a combination on images that best symbolized the spiritual awakening I was having," Lovato wrote in the caption.

"Having a fallen angel being lifted by 3, pure, angelic doves (the Holy trinity) as her inner light is being guided by a higher consciousness, and the disintegration of her dark wings was representing the darkness I was shedding."

Lovato returned to the music scene during an emotional performance of her new single, 'Anyone' at this year's Grammys.

"At the time when I was recording it, I almost listened back and hear these lyrics as a cry for help ... I even think that I was recording it in a state of mind where I felt like I was okay, but clearly I wasn't," Lovato told Apple Music's Zane Lowe about the song.

Lovato also recently sang the national anthem in Miami for Super Bowl LIV.

The star is now under the new management of music mogul Scooter Braun, who she shouted out in the post of her new tattoo:

"Also shout out to @scooterbraun for introducing us! 🖤🕊💉 ps. I still can’t believe how life like this looks and it healed amazing as well 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼".
