EXCLUSIVE: The 'Shadowhunters' Cast Spills Everything You Need to Know Before Tuning in!

David Castro is all grown up -- the 19-year-old actor was just cast as dreamy bad boy vampire, Raphael Santiago, in Freeform's latest young adult series "Shadowhunters" based on the wildly popular "Mortal Instruments" book series -- but he's still getting recognized for his memorable performance as Pedro in "27 Dresses."

You may remember the Puerto Rican-American actor's booty-shaking moves to Shakira in the hit rom-com headlined by Katherine Heigl and James Marsden, which he says had the whole set hysterically laughing.

"I thought I did a good job I was shaking my hips like they told me to," he joked.

We sat down with the burgeoning Freeform star to chat "Shadowhunters," James Marsden, his embarrassing first screen name (thanks to Hailee Steinfeld!) and everything in between.

When you signed on for the show, did you know how big the fandom was?

I didn't realize how big the following was. It's huge, which is so cool because we're filming and we're getting so much love and support from people who read the books ... It's like a cult following, so it's great. I know it's going to help the show, all of the benefits.

See David Castro through the years:

Do you feel any pressure knowing the fans are counting on you?

There is a little bit of pressure because of the books, but I'm relieved because my character wasn't in the "Mortal Instruments" movies, so I didn't have shoes to fill. I'm the first Raphael Santiago, which is kind of cool because I can make it my own. I think the fans are going to like it. And the character description is me. Honey-colored skin, black curly hair. When I read it, I was like woah, this is kind of weird, like the stars aligned. I couldn't be happier with the role.

Vampires have been huge in Hollywood lately, did you channel any other actor in your portrayal?

I did, but it wasn't a vampire. Do you know who Chuck Bass is? I saw him, and I was like "Man, I really like that character and I wanted to incorporate that as the vampire." The ladies like him because he's so clever and slick and cool, so I fed off of that a little bit, and I just bring my own personality to the table, too.

How do you transform into Raphael?

It takes about an hour. It's not bad at all. The only tricky thing that drives me nuts is the prosthetic nails. If I ever have a fighting scene or an action scene, these things pop off like past the camera guys. My nails just pop off here and there.

You were also in the hugely-successful "27 Dresses." What do you remember from that experience?

It's such a great movie, and so many people remember it. I have people coming up to me in supermarkets like, "You're Pedro right?" I did arm wrestle with James. He's a cool guy ... He let me win obviously. Now, if I see him I want a rematch."

Editor's note: Balls in your court, Marsden!

Your sister, Raquel, is also in the business having been featured on "Empire." Would you work with her in the future?

I'd like to work with her now that we're older. It would have to be subtle. I don't think it would be something big. I think it would be something like we cross paths, and we just exchange something really quick, and it's comical. It would be fun because that would be forever --and we would have that memory together.

What was your first AOL screen name?

I had a first AOL email that was ridiculous. I didn't make this up. Hailee Steinfeld was on a Nickelodeon pilot, and I didn't have AOL, and she was like, "You totally need an AOL email." So she told me she'd make me one. It was "dstudycity@aol.com." I was like, "What? Are you for real right now?"

Catch David in "Shadowhunters" on Freeform every Tuesday after "Pretty Little Liars" at 9 p.m. ET.
