‘She did not make it to McDonald’s’: 10-year-old crashes mom’s SUV in attempt to buy herself fast food

A 10-year-old girl who allegedly stole her mother’s car to go to McDonald’s ended up getting lost on the way and collided with another vehicle, a statement from the Kansas City Police reads. The young girl was taken to the hospital following the incident, but it is reported that she only suffered “minor bumps and bruises.”

According to officers, the young girl woke up on Wednesday morning and wanted to go to McDonald’s. Instead of waking her sleeping mother, she took the family's Chevy Tahoe herself. The girl drove for a couple of miles before getting lost and then collided with another vehicle while attempting a turn.

Police responded to the scene around 7:45 a.m., where they were surprised to learn an underaged driver caused the accident.

"She attempted to turn at 12th and Olive," the press release read. "But since she was an unlicensed 10-year-old, she failed to yield to the [Honda Pilot] coming in the opposite direction."

While both vehicles sustained substantial damage, as well as an electrical utility box and a stop sign, the girl only had minor bruises. The driver of the Pilot was not hurt.

"The girl did not make it to McDonald’s," the statement said.

However, this isn't the first time a child was willing to steal a car to go to McDonald’s. In 2017, an eight-year-old Ohio boy learned how to drive by watching YouTube videos and, along with his four-year-old sister, drove successful to his local McDonald's after their parents fell asleep early.

East Palestine Patrolman Jacob Koehler said the young boy drove "effortlessly" through downtown. The boy paid for his and his sister's meal with money from his piggy bank.
