UPDATE 1-Greek November trade deficit widens on higher imports

(Adds tourism receipts, imports, cash reserves)

ATHENS, Jan 20 (Reuters) - Greece's current account deficit widened in November last year compared with the same month in 2021, with imports outstripping exports, the Bank of Greece said on Friday.

Central bank data showed the current account deficit was 3.9 billion euros ($4.23 billion) from 2.7 billion euros in November 2021. Stripping out fuels, exports fell by 3.2% at constant prices, while imports increased by 2.3%, the central bank said.

Tourism revenue rose to 314 million euros from 271 million euros in November 2021 thanks to a rebound in arrivals as the sector recovered after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Foreign arrivals were up by 44.7% in November, equal to 87.4% of the level in the same month of 2019, a record year for tourism.

In the January-to-November period, the current account deficit widened by 7.7 billion euros year on year to 17.5 billion euros.

Greece's reserve assets dropped to 11.1 billion euros by the end of November, from 12.5 billion euros in the same month in 2021. ($1 = 0.9227 euros) (Reporting by Angeliki Koutantou Editing by Karolina Tagaris)
