UPDATE 1-Brazil's Natura Q1 loss narrows as online sales jump

(Adds revenues, company's comments)

SAO PAULO, May 12 (Reuters) - Brazilian cosmetics maker Natura & Co, owner of the Avon brand and The Body Shop, reported that its first quarter loss narrowed to 156.6 million reais from a loss of 820.8 million a year ago, as online sales jumped.

The company's earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) rose 470.7%, to 829.1 million reais.

The company said its recurring net income, which excludes expenses with the integration of Avon, was 60.2 million reais.

Natura's net revenues also grew by 25.8% from a year earlier, to 9.5 billion reais, boosted by higher online sales across all brands amid the pandemic.

CEO Roberto Marques said in a statement that all brands posted double sales growth, helped by e-commerce. Only 68% of The Body Shop stores were open in March due to forced lockdowns, for instance.

The rise in sales comes as Natura has been trying to boost sales after conclusion of the acquisition of Avon last year. In April, the company set a target to reach between 47 billion reais and 49 billion reais in net revenues by 2023. This amount is 32% above last year's sales.
