President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported on the evening of 21 May that the situation on the Kramatorsk, Kurakhove and Pokrovsk fronts remains extremely complicated, and most of the fighting is going on there. Ukrainian forces are inflicting losses on the Russians in Kharkiv Oblast, and the results are tangible.

Details: Zelenskyy said he had heard detailed reports on the situation in the combat zone and the defence from Defence Minister Rustem Umierov, Anatolii Barhylevych, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and Oleksandr Syrskyi, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Quote: "The situation on the Pokrovsk front and the other Donetsk [Oblast] fronts – Kramatorsk and Kurakhove – remains extremely complicated: most of the fighting is going on there. Our forces are destroying the occupiers in Kharkiv Oblast, and the results are tangible."

Details: Zelenskyy also heard a report on the latest meeting of the Ukraine Defence Contact Group, at which partners were briefed on Ukraine’s needs: air defence systems, armoured equipment, and ammunition.

Quote: "I’m grateful to every state, every leader, and all our partners’ defence ministers and chiefs of staff who are indeed ready to help and fulfil the commitments they have made. All the content of the communication with our partners must be reflected in our soldiers’ actual combat work – with the weapons they need in the combat zone. And that’s right now, within the next few weeks, not at some point in the summer."
