Zelenskyy meets with new Lithuanian defense minister

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has met with newly appointed Lithuanian Defense Minister Laurynas Kasčiūnas, Zelenskyy reported on Telegram on April 10.

The Ukrainian president was the first non-Lithuanian politician to meet with Kasčiūnas, Zelenskyy added.

They discussed importance of Lithuania's continued leadership in the international coalition for demining, the development of cooperation in defense industry, and the continuation of work on a document on security guarantees for Ukraine.

"Thank you for all Lithuania's help and readiness to support Ukraine to victory," the president wrote.

According to the President’s press service, during the meeting, they also discussed further comprehensive support from Lithuania, in particular in training Ukrainian soldiers and implementing rehabilitation programs for wounded soldiers.

In addition, Zelenskyy said that Ukrainians are particularly grateful for Lithuania's financial contribution to the Czech initiative to purchase artillery munitions for Ukraine, and for funding drone initiatives as well.

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda appointed Kasčiūnas as the new Minister of National Defense on March 25.

Previously, he served as chairman of the Lithuanian parliament’s National Security and Defense Committee.
