Zelenskyy invites Orban to the Global Peace Summit in Switzerland

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a phone conversation with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, discussing the Russian invasion and Kyiv’s EU and NATO aspirations, Zelenskyy said in a Twitter post on May 8.

During the call, Zelenskyy also invited Orban to attend the Global Peace Summit scheduled to take place in Switzerland on June 15-16. The Ukrainian leader spoke about the importance of Hungary's position in the context of peace and overall regional security.

“I emphasized Ukraine's interest in good relations [with Hungary] and the development of trade, energy, and logistics cooperation,” said Zelenskyy.

“We have agreed on further steps to resolve the full range of bilateral issues on mutually beneficial terms. I am convinced that Ukraine's rapid accession to the EU will benefit both our states.”

Orban stated that Hungary is ready to make efforts that would lead to peace in Ukraine. According to Hungarian outlet Hirado, the conversation also covered "all important elements of Hungarian-Ukrainian relations."

Orban’s press secretary Bertalan Havasi added that Zelenskyy and Orban agreed to continue bilateral consultations in the future.
