Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed concerns during a May 17 meeting with journalists that Western partners fear a Russian defeat could lead to unpredictable geopolitical shifts.

"They wanted Ukraine to win in such a way that Russia would not lose," the President said.

“It would be an unpredictable loss and unpredictable geopolitics. I don't think it works that way. In order for Ukraine to win, we need to be given everything necessary to win.”

Volodymyr Zelenskyy also called French President Emmanuel Macron's idea to train Ukrainian military in Ukraine logical and suggested organizing a hub for repairing French equipment in the country.

"I look at this very positively, to be honest," stated the Ukrainian President.

“All this could be a step that would encourage other countries. It opens a new page in this war.”

He is, however, skeptical of the idea of an "Olympic truce," noting that a ceasefire "does not work well with this enemy."

"In addition, there is a risk — who will monitor that during the ceasefire their forces will not approach us?" Zelenskyy said.

“The ceasefire doesn't prevent the equipment from moving closer and then launching an offensive. I mean, I don't understand the details. For me, it still sounds like a dead story.”
