Ukraine condemns the massive attack on Israel, in which nearly 300 missiles and Shahed drones were launched, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on X on April 14.

He compared the Israeli attack to the Russian one, as the aggressor state also uses Shahed suicide UAVs against Ukraine during mass attacks. The world must prevent escalation in the Middle East, he added.

"Iran's actions threaten the entire region and the world, just as Russia's actions pose a risk of war expansion," Zelenskyy stated. He called for a "decisive and united response from the world" to what he described as the cooperation between Iran and Russia in spreading terror.

Zelenskyy also highlighted the ineffectiveness of mere dialogue in halting such aggressions. "Discussions and words will not stop drones and missiles," he remarked, stressing the need for enhanced security measures and proactive counteractions against aggressors. He appealed directly to the U.S. Congress to make critical decisions to bolster allies during these perilous times.

Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry also "strongly condemned" Iran's massive attack against Israel, which the it called absolutely unacceptable and irresponsible earlier on April 14. Such actions carry the risk of an unprecedented further escalation of the situation in the Middle East, the statement read.

Iran's massive attack on Israel

Over the past few days, Israel and the United States have been preparing for Iran to attack Israel in retaliation for the strike on the Iranian consulate in Syria, which the Iranians accuse the Israelis of carrying out. As a result of the attack, high-ranking IRGC officials were killed.

Iran conducted the expected attack late in the evening of April 13, launching hundreds of drones and missiles at Israel. On the morning of April 14, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) announced that Iran had launched more than 300 missiles and drones into the country within a few hours.

The IDF said it had shot down 99% of Iranian missiles and drones.

Israel's partners also helped repel the attack. In particular, according to CNN, the United States intercepted more than 70 UAVs and three ballistic missiles that Iran used to attack Israel.

Israel reopened its airspace on April 14 after an overnight closure. Flights in the country resumed after a seven-hour pause.

The Institute for the Study of War reported that the Iranian attack on Israel is similar to those that Russia has repeatedly launched against Ukraine, trying to determine the best way to break through Western-style air and missile defenses.
