Zelenskyy compares Ukraine and Russia’s losses in Kharkiv Oblast
The losses during the Russian offensive in the Kharkiv Oblast were eight Russians to one Ukrainian, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in an interview with journalists from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan.
"Their breakthrough in the direction of Kharkiv, which took place a little over two weeks ago, ended with a military casualty ratio of 1 to 8 — one Ukrainian to eight the Russians," he said, noting that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has "absolutely no regard for human life."

"Before that, there were about 2-3 thousand Russian casualties per week — I constantly receive analytics about the killing of Russian soldiers. 2-3 thousand families lost their children. But he will not wash his hands of all this bloodshed," the Ukrainian President said.
The article notes that the interview with Zelenskyy was supposed to take place on May 24, at the President's Office in Kyiv, but the plans changed dramatically.

Russian offensive in Kharkiv Oblast
On May 10, Russian forces attempted to breach Ukraine's defenses near Vovchansk in Kharkiv Oblast, according to the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense. Ukrainian forces successfully repelled the attacks.

At the same time, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that Russian troops had launched a new counteroffensive in the area.
Monitoring groups noted that several villages in northern Kharkiv Oblast were occupied.
Oleksandr Syrskyi, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, described the situation in Kharkiv Oblast as "escalating". He stated that Russian troops had extended the active combat zone by 70 km.
Khortytsia Strategic and Operational Group of Troops spokesman said that Ukrainian Armed Forces had managed to stabilize the situation in Vovchansk on May 21.
According to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), as of May 23, Ukraine had recaptured some territory in Vovchansk.
On May 24, Colonel Ihor Prokhorenko, a representative of the General Staff, stated that the Armed Forces have halted Russian troops in the Kharkiv direction and are conducting counteroffensive actions.
