Details: "Ukraine and Azerbaijan have promising projects in energy, trade, and other areas. We directed our teams to step up their implementation efforts and coordinated future joint events," Zelenskyy posted, without going into detail.

The Azerbaijani side has not reported about the phone call between the two presidents yet.

Background:

  • In February, presidents of Ukraine and Azerbaijan held a meeting on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference where they spoke English instead of Russian.

  • Since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, Baku has provided humanitarian aid for Kyiv but refused to supply it with weapons. Azerbaijani officials support the territorial integrity of Ukraine but still contact Russian vis-à-vis.

  • Back in April 2022, Zelenskyy stated that he understood Azerbaijan’s stance concerning the war in Ukraine.
