New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern Becomes Second World Leader to Give Birth While in Office

Ardern had a baby girl!

It's a girl for Jacinda Ardern! The New Zealand prime minister has given birth to a healthy bundle of joy, according to a statement released on behalf of the 37-year-old and her partner, Clarke Gayford.

Ardern's first child is just the second to be born to a sitting world leader.

The first was born in 1990 to Pakistan's then-Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto when she had her daughter, Bakhtawar.

Soon after Ardern announced her pregnancy mere months after she took office, Bakhtawar Bhutto Zardari was among the well-wishers from around the world.

"Congratulations to Prime Minister @jacindaardern on the wonderful news," she tweeted back in January.

Remarkably, Ardern's baby's June 21 birthday is the same as Benazir Bhutto.

"Welcome to our village wee one," Ardern wrote on Instagram. "Thank you so much for your best wishes and your kindness. We're all doing really well thanks to the wonderful team at Auckland City Hospital."

The little girl's name was not immediately announced.
