AUCKLAND, New Zealand (AP) — England will play Ireland and South Africa faces New Zealand in the semifinals of rugby's Junior World Championships after a dramatic final round of pool matches on Tuesday.

Four-time champion New Zealand, beaten 33-24 by South Africa earlier in the tournament, started the day with only a faint chance of reaching the final four.

But when Wales shocked France 13-3, New Zealand was able to qualify if it scored four tries and beat Scotland by more than five points. New Zealand had three tries by halftime and scored five more in the second half to win 54-7.

South Africa struggled in wet conditions to beat Samoa 21-8 and England needed a last-minute penalty to edge Argentina 17-16 in their final pool matches.

Ireland beat Fiji 38-0 with three penalty tries.
