Zayn Malik has given a rare insight into his relationship with former fiancée Perrie Edwards.

The former One Direction star, 31, and Little Mix singer, 30, first got together in 2011 with Malik proposing two years later.

They split in 2015 before making it down the aisle with Edwards claiming Malik dumped her via text message.

"It was horrible, the worst time in my life," she penned in Little Mix’s 2016 book, Our World, adding: " A four-year relationship, two year engagement ended by a simple text message.

“Just like that. Even though things in my career were going really well, it was incredibly difficult for me."

While both went on to find happiness with other partners, Malik - who is currently single - now admits he was pretty clueless while with Edwards.

Appearing on the May cover of Nylon - the Dusk Till Dawn singer, whose relation with Edwards lasted from when he was 17 until he was 21, said, “I didn’t know anything about anything at that point.”

He continued: “I thought I did, because I was 21. I was legally allowed to do everything, but I didn’t know s***.”

Malik, who shares a three-year-old daughter with ex Gigi Hadid, says he has since attempted to look for love elsewhere, but been thrown off Tinder "once or twice" because the dating app thought he was catfishing himself.

“Everyone accused me of catfishing,” he said. “They’re like, ‘What are you using Zayn Malik’s pictures for?’”

He added: “It’s not been too successful for me, I’ll be honest.”
