On Christmas Eve 2016, a spokesman said the couple had “very sadly” lost their baby.

The new baby girl, whose name will be announced in the days to come, is a little sister for Mia Grace, who turned four this year.

She was born also born on the NHS, at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital in 2014 weighing 7lbs 12oz, and has become a firm favourite among royal-watchers for her entertaining and boisterous outings with her family at her mother’s riding events.

The news comes in a remarkably busy year for the Royal Family, with the birth of Prince Louis, the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the Prince of Wales’ 70th birthday, the Queen’s Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting and major overseas tours for numerous senior royals.
