Yum's Feb. China sales show signs of improvement

KFC parent Yum says China sales showed signs of improvement in February

NEW YORK (AP) -- Yum Brands Inc.'s sales in China slid 20 percent in January and February, but still weren't as bad as expected. The parent company of KFC is working to rebuild its reputation in China following a food scare.

The Louisville, Ky.,-based company had forecast a 25-percent decline for the two months for sales at Chinese restaurants open at least a year.

And in February, the figure ticked up 2 percent.

Yum was slammed after a TV report late last year that said its suppliers were giving chickens unapproved levels of antibiotics. To keep investors updated on its efforts, Yum is reporting monthly sales figures for China until the business recovers.

Yum shares are up nearly 7 percent in after-hours trading.
